Plastic pollution from packaging

Completely eliminate plastic pollution from packaging in up to 5 years: Ambev's bold goal was recently announced by the brewery and will rely on various measures and partnerships with other companies and universities.
Among the partners that will help Ambev in the challenge are companies that produce and recycle plastic packaging, an association of collectors and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).
This does not mean, however, that the company will stop producing plastic packaging by 2025, but rather eliminate or replace the plastic it understands as unnecessary, investing in recycled or returnable packaging and plastic recycling.

How Ambev wants to eliminate plastic pollution

The action will be on three fronts:

According to the brewery, in order to achieve the goal of ending plastic pollution from its packaging, it will work on three fronts:

Elimination and replacement of unnecessary plastic
Use of returnable packaging or 100% recycled content in the composition of new packaging
Investment in innovation and technologies for circularity, recycling and new materials

Research and Development

Among the projects are investments in research and development, logistics initiatives, replacement of raw materials, partnerships with startups, population awareness, among others.
In addition to its beer brands, Ambev works with an extensive portfolio of soft drinks, which have plastic as the main material in their packaging. Today, 18% of all liquid produced by the company is packaged in plastic packaging.

Commitment to sustainability

For some years now, Ambev has already made a commitment to try to reduce the environmental impact related to its products.
As a way to reduce the consumption of virgin plastic, for example, the company developed the first 100% recycled PET. Launched in 2012, the packaging is already used in 61% of Guaraná Antarctica bottles. In addition, 37% of Ambev's total production of PET bottles already has recycled material.
The use of recycled plastic encourages and develops the recycling chain, including benefits of socioeconomic inclusion.
